The Lords of Salem is a 2012 supernatural horror film written, produced, and directed by Rob Zombie and is the third film from Haunted Movies. After directing the remake of Halloween and its sequel, Rob Zombie stated that he wanted to try something different and original. Different and original? Maybe not so. Not only did he cast his wife (Sheri Moon Zombie) yet again, the film also has some slight resemblance to the classic 1968 movie, Rosemary's Baby.
The plot focuses on Heidi, a troubled female disc jockey in Salem, Massachusetts, whose life becomes entangled with a coven of ancient Satan-worshipping women.
The film started shooting on October 17, 2011, with Salem Massachusetts actually being used as a location for many of the outside shots. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2012. Rob Zombie's novelization of The Lords of Salem was released on March 12, 2013, where the film was given a limited release on April 19, 2013. The film received mixed reviews from critics. One reviewer from Fearnet criticized the choice of Sheri Moon as the main character and we kind of have to agree. Over use of any actor/actress in a writer/directors movies can become very old very fast. Plus there are so many great artists out there that could have played the role of Heidi so much better.

Whilst we were here we actually missed a spot! There is a chapel on the grounds that Heidi also walks past, so this is an excuse to head back the next time we are Salem way. Elizabeth got to recreate the scene at the bridge though.

This is the location where Heidi hears Herman's call. The pier where this shot was filmed is just a short walk from the parking area on the boardwalk. Alas, it has fallen into disrepair, so much so that you can no longer walk the full length of it. This area looks like it has seen some decline and one can only imagine what a bustling place it once used to be in it's hey day.
There are a few more locations that we still need to tick off from this film, another being in Greenlawn Cemetery that we totally spaced on, so expect some more updates in the future. You can also find more photo's from our visit's to these locations on our Facebook page.
