Not only did Lovecraft write many descriptions of sunsets in his stories, he also wrote a poem, aptly named, Sunset. From his home in 66 Prospect Street which faced East, and the views from Prospect Terrace, he would have witnessed some amazing sunsets over his beloved Providence. You can certainly see why he penned their majesty.
PROSPECT TERRACE
DATE(S) VISITED: OCT 31, 2018/OCT 29, 2016
LOCATION: PROVIDENCE, RI
It was only appropriate that Team H chose this spot to say our marriage vows... and in true Lovecraftian style, at sunset.
Sunset - By H.P. Lovecraft
The cloudless day is richer at its close;
A golden glory settles on the lea;
Soft, stealing shadows hint of cool repose
To mellowing landscape, and to calming sea.
And in that nobler, gentler, lovelier light,
The soul to sweeter, loftier bliss inclines;
Freed form the noonday glare, the favour'd sight
Increasing grace in earth and sky divines.
But ere the purest radiance crowns the green,
Or fairest lustre fills th' expectant grove,
The twilight thickens, and the fleeting scene
Leaves but a hallow'd memory of love!
